About Newport Pain Management
Newport Pain Management is Newport Beach's longest-established pain management practice. Founded by H. Rand Scott, MD in 1996, the practice has provided specialized pain evaluation and treatment to Orange County patients for three decades — predating the pain management program at Hoag Hospital and every other pain practice in the Newport Beach area.
Physician-delivered care — every visit, every procedure
At Newport Pain Management, every patient is evaluated and treated personally by Dr. Scott. The practice does not employ Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, or other mid-level providers. In an era when many pain practices have shifted patient care to non-physician staff with the physician in a supervisory role, we hold to the standard the practice was founded on in 1996: pain care requires physician judgment at every step — during the initial evaluation, during every follow-up visit, during every procedure — and that is what our patients receive.
This is not a philosophical position. It is a clinical one. Pain medicine is a specialty where the diagnosis often shifts as treatment progresses, where subtle changes in the patient's presentation change the recommendation, and where the interpretation of response to prior treatment guides the next step. That level of continuous clinical judgment is what a physician-only practice delivers.
About Dr. Scott
H. Rand Scott, MD is a board-certified anesthesiologist who completed a one-year subspecialty in pain management at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he then served as a clinical instructor in the Pain Management Unit before founding Newport Pain Management in 1996. He holds hospital privileges at Hoag Hospital and Newport Center for Special Surgery, and directs the KetaCure Ketamine Infusion Center.
Dr. Scott also serves as Medical Director of Newport Center for Special Surgery (NCSS), an AAAHC-accredited ambulatory surgical facility co-located at the same Newport Beach address.
Three decades in one location
Newport Pain Management has operated continuously from 1401 Avocado Avenue in Newport Beach since its founding in 1996. This continuity matters for chronic pain patients, who often benefit from a long-term relationship with a single physician who knows their history and their response patterns. Some of our patients have been with the practice for two decades or more.
